Married At First Sight Series Features Boston Singles

BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- Imagine being at the end of the aisle on your wedding day with family and friends watching--but the only fact you have about your future spouse is their ring size.

What may sound like an arranged marriage is actually happening in 2018 on cable television.

Season six of Married at First Sight airs on Lifetime on Tuesday at 9 p.m., and this season, the show sets its lens on the city of Boston, where six individuals in their 20s in hope for wedded bliss. 

The three couples are meeting and marrying as complete strangers for the first time, having been paired up by a team of relationship experts. 

Dr. Pepper Schwartz, pastor Calvin Roberson, and Dr. Jessica Griffin of The University of Massachusetts Medical School, along with show producers, vetted participants from a 1,000 applicants. 

"They put their faith in the hands of us and in two weeks they will be married," said Roberson one of the relationship experts on the show.

He said the controversial social experiment is an alternate approach for men and women who want the ultimate commitment.

"It's a legally binding marriage," said Jessica Griffin. "The only way out is through divorce."

According to the show's Executive Producer Eric Deitweiler, participants on the show have gone through rounds of interviews, background checks, and psychological testing.

"They know absolutely nothing," Detweiler said. "Part of the social experiment is watching these two people who the experts have matched based on various background checks and countless interviews with individuals and they're even their families finding how the matches and how these people can find and grow in love with each other."

Spoiler Alert--the film crew spent eight weeks filming with the couples, from August to October. 

At the end of the eight weeks, those couples will be faced with the decision to stay married or file for divorce, for all the world to see on TV. On the show we'll meet the following couples: 

Jonathan Francetic and Molly Duff

Jonathan is a 28-year-old army veteran and financial associate in Boston. 

Molly is a 25-year-old commercial insurance adjuster who grew up surrounded by a loving family with her parent’s marriage as a great example of what love and devotion looks like. Sadly, her dad died when she was 18, and as a result, she is closer than ever with her mother and two sisters.

Shawnice Jackson and Jepthe Pierre

Shawnice is a 29-year-old entrepreneur and cosmetologist living in Providence, RI. She’s the oldest of ten brothers and sisters and loves having a big family.

Jepthe is a a 26 year-old second grade teacher from Boston and is the oldest of 14 children. He is a natural leader and took on the role of a father figure to his younger siblings growing up. Although his parents are still together, he doesn’t exactly admire their marriage, and looks to others for relationship inspiration and advice.

Jacklyn Schwartzberg and Ryan Buckley

Jacklyn is a 29-year-old teacher turned sales representative living in the suburbs of Boston. She grew up in a wonderful family, with two siblings and parents whose relationship she describes as “perfect.” The devastating and sudden death of her boyfriend almost two years ago left her without the man she believed to be her soulmate.

Ryan is a 29-year-old Brookline, MA firefighter who loves serving his community and enjoys cooking for his buddies at the station. Although most of what he hoped for in life has been achieved, Ryan is missing that special someone to spend it with. 

Season 6 of Married at First Sight premieres on Tuesday night on Lifetime at 9 p.m. with a casting special at 8 p.m.
