Field Hospital Ready Next Thursday To Handle Worcester Covid Cases

The DCU Center in Worcester which has played host throughout the years to huge, high profile events, is now playing host to that could be its most important event.

This week, crews are in the midst of putting together a make-shift hospital, that will accommodate approximately 250 beds in the battle to stop Covid 19.

Officials say that the DCU Center is one of three mobile hospitals that is going up around the state.

It will require 50 thousand square feet and officials say the patients who are too sick to go home but not sick enough to put in the hospital.

Officials from UMass Medical Center are spearheading the project. They are concerned that the way the numbers are going --- that they will not have the room to take care of all the patients.

The Worcester Blueprint will be copied throughout the state if need be including the Cape region and in Springfield, where the MassMutual Center is the facility that could be used in a similar setting.

Officials anticipate that the facility will be ready for patients by next Thursday.
