Ways To Get Rid Of Those Ten Extra Pounds

When you’re trying to drop just a few pounds, sometimes it can feel like it’s never going to happen, but registered dietitian Jessica Levinson says if you’ve only got ten-ish pounds to lose, you’re probably already making healthy choices most of the time, you just need to tweak them a little more.

Here are a few ideas on the “how”:

You’re not eating enough - If you’re being extreme and eating less than 1,200 calories a day to speed up your weight loss, you’re actually keeping it from happening. When you don’t eat enough, your body goes into starvation mode and holds onto calories, and your metabolism slows down. So cut back with caution.

You’re eating too much salt - According to a recent study, too much sodium can affect your body’s sense of being full and lead you to overeat. Remember sneaky sources of salt, like bread, frozen meals, and canned foods and read labels so you know what you’re eating.

You’re not eating enough fat - Fat slows down digestion and keeps you full longer, so without it, you’re more likely to overeat later. The fix is to eat enough healthy fats like salmon, nuts, seeds, avocado, and olive oil.

You’re not sleeping enough - Research shows that when people don’t get enough shut-eye the night before, they eat an average of 385 more calories the next day. And that’s enough to keep you from losing those last ten pounds.
