There’s no doubt saying the right things during an interview can be an important factor in whether or not you land a job, but it turns out it’s not always what you say influences a recruiter.
A new survey by OfficeTeam finds that how a person carries themself can also play a huge role in whether or not they get that job they want. A survey of senior managers finds that 30% of people are guilty of putting out negative body language during an interview.
As for what people could be doing wrong, there are a number of things senior managers look for. Eye contact was rated as the thing that could reveal the most about a person, scoring a 4.18 on a scale of one to five. Other non-verbal cues senior managers pick up on include:
- Facial expressions - 3.96
- Posture - 3.55
- Handshake - 3.53
- Fidgeting/habitual movements - 3.33
- Hand gestures - 3.03
