While a lot of Americans like to limit their travel to the 50 states, there are plenty of people who love to venture to international destinations, and it seems certain states prefer certain locales.
A new report by InsureMyTrip reveals the most popular international travel destinations per state, based on travel insurance policies booked last year. It seems as though a lot of the country is looking to getaway to a relaxing beach.
Overall, 26 states, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Indiana and New Jersey, prefer to take international trips to the Caribbean, with places like Jamaica, Turks and Caicos, St. Lucia, Antigua and St. Maarten among the most popular choices. Another beach location, Mexico, is also a very popular choice, placing at number one in 16 states, including Minnesota, Idaho and California.
But not everyone is headed for a beach. Several states on the East Coast, including New York, Vermont, Maine and Connecticut, prefer to take their travels to Italy, while the most popular international destination for Alaska and Washington DC is the United Kingdom, and residents of Hawaii prefer to travel to Japan.
