How much time do you think you spend thinking about being on vacation? According to new research, it’s a lot. A new survey from Travelex on the travel habits of 2,000 Americans reveals we spend more than 113 hours every year thinking about getting away from our daily routine, which adds up to 284 days over our lifetime.
And it’s no wonder we’re dreaming about a vacay all the time, the average respondent sees an average of 2.4 vacation photos on social media every day that make them jealous, which is 891 pics a year giving us getaway envy. But FOMO isn’t the biggest reason people feel inspired to travel, the survey shows 58% of folks do it just because they need a break from everyday life.
Some people want to travel to party abroad, or find a far off adventure, the majority of respondents (52%) say “relaxing” is their biggest priority when choosing a trip. And most of us do feel more relaxed on vacation, 71% say they smile more then and 71% also say they feel less stressed. Of course, there’s always a downside, and with vacations, it’s money - 56% say it’s their top concern when taking that long-awaited getaway.
