About three months ago, Dale "Grey Beard" Sanders hopped in a 15-foot canoe in Lake Itasca, Minnesota, on his 87th birthday – and started paddling down the Mississippi River.
About a week ago, Dale popped out the other end, arriving at Luling, Louisiana, 87 days later, earning him the Guinness World Record for the oldest person to paddle the length of the Mississippi River.
While this is a remarkable feat, it's actually something Dale "Grey Beard" Sanders is used to.
He actually made the same trip, down the Mississippi River, at the age of 80 in the summer of 2015. He held the record then. And he holds a new record now.
"I just couldn’t turn down the opportunity to reclaim my personal record," said Dale, "And, at the same time, get a new, official Guinness World Records title." Adding, "With the right attitude, mindset, physical conditioning and logistics preparation, just about anyone can paddle her."
