Back in 2002, Pete Glass of Maplewood, Minnesota, made a tough call, selling his beloved 1970 Plymouth Road Runner convertible to help pay for his son Jake’s college. That car had been part of the family’s best memories, from car shows to weekend cruises with the top down, but the money was needed for their son’s future. Jake never forgot what his dad gave up and quietly vowed that one day he’d bring that car back home.

After five years of coming up empty, Jake called in some expert help from Wes Eisenschenk, a North Branch “car detective” who runs the Facebook page Lost Muscle Cars. Armed with the car’s serial number, he located the car in North Carolina after just two days. Even better, the owner was willing to sell, and Jake wasted no time making the deal.

Not long after, the father and son flew to North Carolina to pick up the Road Runner and bring it back to Minnesota. Pete was overjoyed, saying he never thought he’d see the car again. Now the Glass family plans to keep it for generations and Jake says the best part of the whole journey was seeing the joy on his dad’s face.
