The legendary rocker and English pop star will be joining country crooner Morgan Wallen as the final acts set to take the SNL stage for scheduled performances in 2020.
The slate will begin with the “Still Goin Down” musician playing the December 5 episode, hosted by actor Jason Bateman. The Oscar-nominated Timothée Chalamet will serve as master of ceremonies of the December 12 episode, during which Springsteen and The E Street Band will deliver a live set. And lastly, the “Fever” superstar will perform during the Kristen Wiig-hosted December 19 program.
The last time Springsteen performed with the E Street Band for the late-night sketch comedy show was back in December 2015. The “Thunder Road” icon’s SNL performance announcement comes a month after Springsteen unveiled his newest album, Letter to You, this October.
Earlier this year, Lipa, who made her debut on SNL in 2018, released her sophomore studio album, Future Nostalgia. The highly-acclaimed LP garnered the pop princess several nominations at the 2021 Grammys, including Best Album, Best Song, and Record of the Year (the latter noms for the record’s lead single, “Don’t Start Now”).
Wallen was initially scheduled to perform his debut SNL gig in October but was withdrawn from the appearance after being caught on video partying recklessly and neglecting to follow COVID-19 safety measures during the ongoing pandemic. Taking accountability for his actions, he stated in a video, “I respect the show’s decision because I know I put them in jeopardy, and I take ownership for this."
