Roger Waters Blasts Facebook Request To Use Pink Floyd Music In Promo Film

Roger Waters says he rejected a request from Facebook, asking him for permission to use "Another Brick in the Wall Part II" in a promotional film for Facebook and Instagram.

The Pink Floyd bassist made the revelation during an event over the weekend to free WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange. Waters said the offer came in a note from Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg himself.

"Arrived this morning, with an offer of a huge, huge amount of money, and the answer is — 'F--k you! No f---ing way!" Waters said.

Assange's imprisonment as long been held up as an example of censorship run amok. Waters blasted Facebook for blocking free speech on its platforms and called the request for "Another Brick in the Wall Part II" another part of the company's attempts to "take over absolutely everything."

Waters proceeded to read excepts of Zuckerberg's letter, before opining that Facebook's power is so out of control that it could unilaterally censor stories about Assange's plight, providing another obstacle to his freedom. Assange has been critical of Facebook's 'spying' on users for more than a decade.

"I will not be a party to this bullshit, Zuckerberg," Waters added before wondering how the Facebook CEO became "one of the most powerful idiots in the world."
