Lizzo is opening up about her dramatic body transformation and explaining why she doesn't like to refer to it as "weight loss."
On a recent episode of the On Purpose with Jay Shetty podcast, the "Still Bad" singer explained why she prefers to talk about her slimmed-down figure as a "weight release" rather than a loss because of how much she has gained from the experience, per E! News.
"The weight that is no longer on me is not just fat or physical," she said. "I released so much to get to this point and I think people can see that and I don't want to describe anything as loss. I'm not experiencing any loss. I've actually gained so much."
Lizzo shared that her transformation was more than just physical changes and losing weight, it also had a positive impact on her mentally and taught her a lot about exercise and nutrition.
"I've gained a sense of self. I've gained a lifestyle that I actually really love and I'm like, 'I can maintain this.' I've gained new perspective on nutrition and the science behind cardio and weight lifting," she said.
The "Truth Hurts" hitmaker also shared why she chooses to refer to her journey as a release rather than a loss, explaining that the words she uses are "intentional."
"People aren't going to understand this right now, but it's the most body positive way to experience what I'm going through. I don't want to use any negative terms," she said, adding, "I want to be very intentional with the words that come out of my mouth because there's young people who are watching me and they're experiencing what I'm putting into the world and they're applying it to their own experience and their own life just like I did when I was a kid."
