With Father’s Day coming up this weekend, it’s time to recognize dads of all varieties, including the fictional ones. While we all appreciate the real life dads in our lives, the ones we see in movies and shows hold a special place in our hearts, too.
Just in time for their special holiday, new research reveals the TV dads Americans love most. Roku polled hundreds of users to find out which small screen fathers are the favorites and found:
- The top TV dad overall is Tim Taylor from “Home Improvement.”
- But Gomez Addams, patriarch of “The Addams Family,” has the “most consistent appeal” across all generations and genders.
- The most divisive TV dad is Archie Bunker from “All in the Family.” Only 3% of the youngest respondents (ages 18 to 34) included him, compared to 37% of those 65 and older.
- Al Bundy, the dad from “Married … with Children” has the biggest gender gap among fans, with 34% of men naming him one of their favorites, compared to just 11% of women.
- The 18 to 34-year-old group rates Phil Dunphy from “Modern Family” and Gomez Addams their top dads, while Al Bundy and Tim Taylor are the faves of folks ages 35-54.
