Travel is naturally limited due to COVID-19 and travelers opting to stay close to home this summer. The personal-finance website WalletHub today released its report on 2020's Best and Worst Cities for Staycations.

To identify the best spots for staying local, WalletHub compared more than 180 cities across 15 key indicators of a fun-filled yet wallet-friendly staycation. Our data set ranges from parks per capita to the average home square footage and the summer weather.

The top cities?

  1. Plano, TX
  2. Boise, ID
  3. Tampa, Fl (Did Tampa move up with the arrival of Tom Brady?

The worst cities?

  • Pearl City, HI (Hawaii? How's that a lousy Staycation?)
  • Chula Vista, CA
  • Warwick, RI

Not only were two Rhode Island cities near the bottom of the list, (Providence was #179 out of 182!) the rest of New England didn't fare too well either. Burlington, VT, was the highest ranking at #93. Boston came in at #129, Worcester was #163, and Springfield where on the list. What? WalletHub has some explaining to do!
