To identify the best spots for staying local, WalletHub compared more than 180 cities across 15 key indicators of a fun-filled yet wallet-friendly staycation. Our data set ranges from parks per capita to the average home square footage and the summer weather.
The top cities?
- Plano, TX
- Boise, ID
- Tampa, Fl (Did Tampa move up with the arrival of Tom Brady?
The worst cities?
- Pearl City, HI (Hawaii? How's that a lousy Staycation?)
- Chula Vista, CA
- Warwick, RI
Not only were two Rhode Island cities near the bottom of the list, (Providence was #179 out of 182!) the rest of New England didn't fare too well either. Burlington, VT, was the highest ranking at #93. Boston came in at #129, Worcester was #163, and Springfield was...no where on the list. What? WalletHub has some explaining to do!
