A New World As Barbers Open on Tuesday

Starting Tuesday, May 26, you'll be able to get a haircut in Massachusetts. Things will look a little different than that last time you visited your favorite haircutter, however.

  • Appointment only
  • Most of the changes aren't surprising. You won't be waiting inside leafing through a magazine or playing on your phone. We'll have to wait in the car.
  • Customers will be separated by at least 6 feet.
  • Customers will be required to wear a mask.
  • Workers will be required to wear a mask, as well as a gown or smock, glasses or goggles, and gloves.
  • Partitions are suggested "where feasible," but not required.

You'll want to ask about what services are available. Coloring, blow drying, and treatments will be available, but “non-hair services” not so much. Those include manicures, lip waxing, beard trimming, and eyebrow threading, among other things.

New Hampshire shops have been opened for a weeks now with many of the same rules.
