What you’re eating and drinking can have a direct impact on your body temperature.
So, if you’re feeling wilted during the heat wave, you may want to eat some cooling foods before you turn up your air conditioner.
First and foremost, drink lots of fluids. Then eat cooling foods to help hydrate your muscles and skin, and maintain a healthy internal body temperature.
- Food rich in water, like fruits and raw vegetables.
- Leafy Veggies and whole grains rich in calcium, which can help regulate body temperature.
- Hot spices. Spicy foods increase your pulse and make you sweat, cooling you off.
- Beans and chickpeas instead of meat. This protein is easier to digest so your body won't work as hard.
Also, it's a good idea to stick to room temperature foods. Drinking ice cold water only cools off the mouth and throat, making the rest of the body work to warm them up.
