Bengals Fans Move Wedding Day to Super Bowl Sunday

Rachel Hyden and Johnny Wallen bonded over their shared love of Cincinnati sports when they started dating and say their relationship “has been very sports-focused.” So after the Bengals won the AFC Championship, they wanted to celebrate the biggest way they could … by getting married on game day.

The super fans have been engaged since last summer and were already planning a wedding for October 2022, but those plans quickly changed when their favorite football team earned their spot at the Super Bowl. “As soon as they won I looked at Johnny and said, ‘We have to have a Super Bowl party,’" the bride recalls. “About five minutes later, I just looked at him and said, ‘I think we should get married on Super Bowl Sunday!’”

That was just two weeks ago, which means they’ve really had to hustle to make their big game nuptials happen, but all that hard work is totally worth it to Rachel and Johnny.

  • The groom’s father, Pastor John Wallen Sr, is officiating their Goshen, Ohio, wedding, which is happening on the bride’s brother’s farm.
  • The couple’s 100 guests are encouraged to dress in team colors of orange and black and they’ll be dining on Super Bowl-friendly food, including fajitas, chicken tenders and pizza.
  • Even the couple’s mini Dachshund, Lincoln, will be decked out in his very own Bengals jersey.
  • When Discover Puerto Rico heard about this black and orange-themed wedding, they offered the couple a honeymoon getaway to the island. Pantone Color Institute recently added a namesake shade of orange called Puerto Rico Sunshine, so it fits right in with their theme.
