Why Gen Z Does Not Use “Crying With Laughter” Emoji

According to a report, young people have stopped using the “crying with laughter” emoji because their parents, use it. "It's common wisdom on TikTok that the laughing crying emoji is for ‘boomers,’” reads a recent post on Emojipedia. “And by 'boomers,' I mean anyone over the age of 35.” Gen Z also started abandoning the “rolling on the floor laughing” emoji for the same reason.

In place of “crying with laughter” Gen Z is using a “skull” or “coffin” emoji, to symbolize something so funny it caused them to “die” of laughter, or the “loudly crying face.” They’ve also gone back to abbreviations, using old school lol or lmfao, and always in lower case.

"I use everything but the laughing emoji," 21-year-old Walid Mohammed told CNN Business. "I stopped using it a while back because I saw older people using it, like my mom, my older siblings and just older people in general.
