Dozens of British students were left stranded in New York City when their hotel accidentally shredded their passports, effectively trapping them in the states for an extra four days. The high school students were on a ski trip in New Hampshire when the hotel destroyed their passports.

The group had to apply for Emergency Travel Documents to finally fly home yesterday, something that cost $180 each. The hotel, The Kancamagus Lodge, so far hasn’t offered any explanation for why the passports were shredded.
