Springfield Couple Finds Abandoned New Born On Their Doorstep

As Juliannys Aviles pulled the blanket off the baby’s face she said “his eyes were so swollen he couldn’t even open them.” The baby’s skin was cold to the touch with cracks all across it and his face and feet had serious swelling, she added.  Seeing the newborn was in need of serious medical attention, the couple said they immediately called 911.

Springfield police said they believe the baby was left on the couple’s doorstep sometime Friday night after 9 o’clock. The newborn was presumably sitting in his car seat outside the Aviles residence — in sub-30-degree windy weather — for two days.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Detective Bureau at 413-787-6355. People can also send an anonymous message through the text-a-tip system by texting the word “solve” to 274637, followed by the information, Walsh said.

The baby’s mother left a note next to the baby supplies and car seat, the Aviles family said.

“Please take care of me my mom loves me but she can’t take care of me right now. Please don’t give me up to the state, they’re bad people.” A message was also written on the back of the note reading, “Thank you for taking me in. God bless you.”
