Hereβs a riddleβ¦How does a mother give birth to two babies at the same time when the babies arenβt twins? The answer is something called βsuperfetation.β Sophie Small, whoβs a 30-year-old in Great Britain, seems to have gotten pregnant with daughters Holly and Darcy four weeks apart and this mystery was NOT easy on her body. Small was hospitalized eight times in seven weeks due to the havoc superfetation wreaked on her body. She recalls, βI was carrying two babies who were growing at different stages, but we didnβt know that.β
If this story makes you worry about it happening to you, donβt. According to the Cleveland Clinic, βSuperfetation is so rare in humans that there are only about 14 confirmed cases.β They added, βThe chance that youβll be affected by superfetation is close to zero.β
