A woman born without a uterus has given birth to her own healthy baby after a successful uterus transplant. Madison Gibbs had dreamed of having a family by other means, including surrogacy or adoption, then learned about a clinical trial at Baylor University Medical Center that was recruiting women for the procedure.
Gibbs entered the trial and underwent a successful uterus transplant. She got pregnant four months later and a year to the date after her transplant, she gave birth to a healthy son named Lincoln.
"I couldn't imagine anything better," says Gibbs, who plans on keeping the uterus to try for baby number two later this year. "I mean, I would do it over and over again a thousand times just to get him to get this end result, going through that is still so surreal."
