Worcester city officials on Thursday have canceled this year’s skating in the oval outside City Hall as well as the Festival of Lights celebration.
“It’s something that we all look forward too and it’s a great way to activate the downtown. It’s become a tradition in the last number of years,” City Manager Edward Augustus Jr. said of the Worcester Common Oval.
The city’s Christmas tree will be decorated with lights as will the Common, however, there won’t be an event to celebrate it.
“I know it’s hard. And a lot of people probably haven’t seen their parents, siblings or grandparents over the months,” Mayor Joe Petty said. “Thanksgiving is the holiday where people all get together in large gatherings and small gatherings, but again, let’s be safe.”
