Texas Grandma Gets Vaccine Appointment Gift From Stranger

Emily Johnson, a grandmother from Texas, needed open-heart surgery, but her doctor said she had to get one COVID vaccination before her operation. She tried for hours to score an appointment, but had no luck. She turned to the website Nextdoor and shared her plea for help with her neighbors.

She asked if anyone had suggestions to help her get that much-needed vaccine and a stranger came to her rescue. Christy Lewis said Johnson could have her appointment, telling her, “You need this much more than I do.” But Lewis has an autoimmune disease and is considered a high-risk individual, so the women decided to go to the appointment together and after hearing their story, a supervisor vaccinated both of them that day.

Lewis says she gave her appointment to Johnson because it was the right thing to do and she’s happy she could help. Johnson is now ready for surgery and grateful for the kindness of this stranger. She explains, “What I realized through all this is that even though we hear all kinds of sad stories happening in our country, there are truly wonderful people amongst us committing incredible acts of kindness.”
