Have you ever walked or driven over a bridge and thought about how nerve-racking and scary it must have been for the first person who had to walk or drive over it?
A newly-constructed footbridge recently opened in the Mexican town of Cuernavaca, and the proud mayor of the town was leading a group of people across it when it suddenly collapsed and sent the group plunging 10 feet into a rocky stream. The bridge, which was put together with wood boards and metal chains, was clearly not constructed to support that many people at once. Making matters worse, some on the bridge tried to show off how structurally sound it was by jumping up and down on it - thus proving the opposite. Some people, including the mayor, suffered minor injuries in the fall.
