As Malik Heard was crossing the stage at his graduation from the University of West Georgia, he heard the announcer say something about “Kosovo,” catching his attention. Then Heard spotted his mom, Sergeant Eva Roby, who had been deployed with the National Guard overseas and wasn’t expected to be able to make the ceremony.
Roby wasn’t sure if her leave would be approved, but when she learned she would be able to attend her son’s graduation, she reached out to the school to arrange the heartwarming surprise. After being there for her son followed by a one-week visit with her family, Roby is set to go back to her deployment.
