U.S. Customs and Border agents arrested an American woman who tried to cross from Mexico into Texas with more than 700 pounds of bologna in her car.
The 43-year-old woman was questioned at the border and she declared having only a cooked meal. However, a further inspection of the vehicle revealed several heavy suitcases filled with Mexican bologna, which is prohibited in the U.S. due to the risk of introducing foreign animal diseases into the country. The bologna was confiscated and destroyed. Agents also found undeclared prescription medications and more than $7000 in cash. In addition to losing the sandwich meat and the cash, the woman was fined $1000.
