For a lot of us, rewatching our favorite Christmas movies every year is one of the best parts of the holiday season. And if you want to up that nostalgic feel you get while doing it, consider curating the perfect menu with things they’re actually eating in each movie or creative concoctions inspired by the action on screen.
These are the ideal foods and drinks to pair with your favorite Christmas flicks this year.
“Home Alone” — Microwaved macaroni and cheese - When eight-year-old Kevin gets left behind by his family when they head to Paris for Christmas, he makes the most of it by watching rated-R movies, and he even goes grocery shopping, where he picks up frozen mac and cheese. The kid eats his on a plate, but feel free to enjoy yours straight out of the container it comes in.
“Home Alone 2: Lost In New York” — An ice cream sundae - In the sequel, Kevin ends up alone in NYC, stays at the Plaza Hotel and orders an over-the-top ice cream sundae buffet from room service. Go all out and treat yourself while watching him do the same.
“The Santa Clause” — Judy's special hot chocolate - In this 90s movie, Judy the elf at the North Pole explains that it took her 12-hundred years to get her hot chocolate recipe right, but yours should be much simpler to recreate.
“How The Grinch Stole Christmas” — A Whoville feast - The Whos dine on Who hash, Who pudding and Roast Beast, but you can make your feast full of anything you want while you watch and eat with them.
“The Holiday” — Christmas fettuccine - Iris tries to cheer up the recently heartbroken Miles with a Christmas fettuccine, but you can enjoy the same no matter the state of your love life.
“Elf” — Buddy's pasta - While Buddy the elf happily pours maple syrup, chocolate syrup, crushed up Pop-Tarts, M&M’s and mini marshmallows over spaghetti, not everyone will find the creation as tasty.
“Love Actually” — Banoffee Pie - It’s the pie that Juliet brings to her husband’s BFF Mark’s apartment when she’s trying to win him over, and what’s not to love about a banana and toffee pie?
“National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation” — Eggnog - Make like Clark Griswold and sip on this seasonal beverage while watching this Christmas classic. Bonus points if you drink it in moose head glasses like him!
“A Christmas Story” — Chinese takeout - When their turkey gets eaten by the neighbor’s dogs, Ralphie’s family heads out to dinner at the only place open, a Chinese restaurant. So order takeout and join in the fun.
