For a while now, people have been turning engagements into quite the spectacle, with video, photographers, and other big, public gestures. Well, those days may be over. Couples are now opting for more intimate “quiet proposals.” And it’s become a collaborative effort. In fact, a new survey found that 53% of young couples prefer picking out the ring together.

“Quiet proposing is a new trend where engagements are kept intimate and private, without public displays or widespread announcements, focusing on a personal, low-key moment for the couple,” said Ella Citron-Thompkins of the Diamond Factory, which commissioned the survey. “More couples wanting to choose a ring together reflects a shift towards a more intentional, collaborative proposal process.”

As new bride Nicole Elise says bluntly on TikTok, “You think I trust [him] to go pick out the right ring that I have to wear for the rest of my life? No. I’m going with him. I picked it out.”
