Officer Jared Desalvo of the NYPD’s Harbor Unit adopted a dog, Hudson, six weeks after rescuing her from New York City’s East River.

After being treated for a respiratory infection and placed in foster care by Animal Care Centers of NYC, no one came forward to claim the unchipped, unlicensed Maltese dog. On Saturday, the NYPD announced that Desalvo and his family, including his wife and two children, officially welcomed Hudson into their home. The adoption marked a happy ending for the young dog, who is described as friendly and well-socialized.
