As side-gigs go, this one’s a conversation stopper. Australian Bill Edgar is getting booked more and more frequently to be a “coffin confessor.” The job he signs up for is to attend someone’s funeral and reveal personal secrets to their loved ones. For a fee of around $6,700, Edgar is hired to share final thoughts that the dying person wants told at their farewell, even if that means revealing shocking truths.
It gives the person a chance to speak when they can't anymore. The service is meant to give closure, but it also risks complicating grief for others. He says one of the most popular things he’s asked to do by someone before they die is to poke their body with a pin, with one man telling Edgar he’s afraid of being buried alive.
