A TikTok creator named Kevim (@parentsdisgrace) has gone viral for a quirky but surprisingly effective hack to curb impulse spending: recording himself saying the names of things he wants to buy – instead of actually buying them.
In his videos, Kevim lists items like a “big Slushie,” “New Balance dad runners,” “Memory foam pillow,” a “tattoo inspired by the Muppet Show,” and even a “Popeyes’ chicken sandwich” and then shares the clips online. The idea is that publicly acknowledging the impulse – and maybe feeling a little embarrassed – helps him resist the urge to spend. He jokingly says the method helps him “save money and make me hate myself,” but it’s working.
