Last week, a surveillance camera at the newly opened Uptown Candy Store in Riverside, California, captured Connor Smith and his young son standing guard outside the shop when they noticed its doors were accidentally left unlocked after the store had closed for the day. Instead of leaving, they waited until security arrived. The store owner, Donia Farraj, says the act was especially touching because it happened just days after the shop’s grand opening.

She called the gesture “such a kind act,” noting that Smith didn’t have to take time out of his night to do something like that. Wanting to thank them, Farraj posted the footage on social media to help identify the good Samaritans. Smith learned about the now viral video from a friend.

To show her gratitude, the owner has invited Smith and his son back to the store for a candy shopping spree. The family has accepted the gesture, marking a sweet ending to a thoughtful act.
