A group of teens in Heflin, Alabama, carried on a Halloween season tradition by toilet papering several spots in town, including the Heflin Police Department. After the police station’s roof and vehicles were covered, officers responded with a midnight raid, toilet papering the teens’ homes in return (with parents’ permission of course). Police Chief Ross McGlaughn describes the exchange as harmless fun, adding that he'd rather see teens doing this than getting involved with drugs or alcohol.
The lighthearted prank and counter-prank are being celebrated by the small community, with local businesses even giving out free rolls of ammunition (toilet paper). And some enterprising young people are even profiting from war by selling insurance. "If you buy their insurance and your yard gets rolled, the youth group will come clean it up for you,” McGlaughn explains, “So you can buy protection."
