When an employee at a Cleveland, Ohio, Costco didn’t show up for his early morning shift, his manager, Jesse Orsborn, grew concerned and called to check on him. The employee answered, but was speaking incoherently and then hung up.

Realizing something was wrong, assistant general manager Dave Mackin called back and soon realized the employee was having a medical emergency. They tried to keep him on the line while another employee reached out to emergency services. They later learned that the employee had suffered a stroke and their prompt action was crucial in getting him the care he desperately needed.

Mackin later reflected on the strong sense of community within the Costco family. He says their dedication to caring for both their members and employees shows the deep connections and sense of responsibility that the team shares. The employee was treated at the hospital and later released and while he has a long road to recovery, the situation might have been much worse had it not been for the efforts of his caring coworkers.
