Last month, a Vermont State Trooper heroically rescued an eight-year-old girl from a frozen pond. While playing with her siblings at a pond in Cambridge, Vermont, the girl fell through the thin ice. The homeowner managed to save the girl's younger sister but couldn't reach the older child and called for help.

Trooper Michelle Archer happened to be nearby and responded to the call within five minutes. Bodycam video released this week by the state police shows Archer bravely entering the frigid pond, swimming out to the lifeless child, and bringing her back to shore. Another trooper, who arrived during the rescue, helps carry the girl to a waiting ambulance. The troopers’ prompt and courageous actions were crucial in saving the little girl's life.
The girl was initially in a critical condition but thankfully made a full recovery after being treated at the University of Vermont Medical Center. In recognition of their bravery and quick action, Troopers Archer and Keith Cote, as well as the homeowner, have been recommended for the Vermont State Police’s Lifesaving Award.
